Have you tried jetpacking up and searching that way?ĮDIT: I just remembered that you can also attach a rotor frame (using a single steel plate, if resources are rare) to your grid, grind off the large-grid rotor head, replace it with a small-grid rotor head (using the control menu), and attach a small-grid medium storage container to the small-grid rotor head. I jetpack along the ground (skimming, so to speak), when I'm desperate to find ore and the locations are not readily visible from up high.īut looking at your screenshot I'm thinking that you should be able to spot ore formations from about a kilometer or so above the ground. Usually cobalt is found near clusters of iron and nickel, but it's also deeper and harder to detect unless you're really close to it. Passenger seats can be built with as few as 10 interior plates, and they serve as very cheap cargo containers when you're desperate (as well as a place to recharge). Should I just take gravel out and throw it on the ground? Is it worthless? Then the Survival Kit has a tube running out the back and a sorter that takes iron ingots to my Basic Assembler. What this picture shows is my long painstakingly conveyor belt tube system that is directed to my Survival Kit. ![]() Why does the game make it so incredibly difficult to make storage containers? I'm doing all this just so I can separate the gravel from my deadfall mining. I could take the metal grids off my drop pad's thrusters, but that still leaves me with trying to find cobalt. I spent literally over 8 hours yesterday constructing tubes from the survival kit I grinded off my drop pad to install it near the mountain you can see here int he background. I have looked on youtube for help, but the guides are outdated, and some just mention the different types of ore. I am terribly frustrated, because the game should be fun, but I am having difficulty trying to find cobalt. I find it terribly ironic that I can create a large container as long as I attach to a small head on a advanced rotor but I cannot attach that large container to my factory grid unless I can produce "metal grids" ![]() All I have found is ice, silicon, magnesium, and stone. I have made many hydrogen containers so I can fly about searching for cobalt. Probably from a drop beacon craft being parachuted in. And the only one I can is the Largest Container which requires "metal grids" which I have yet to find except one. I can for no reason install any containers to any of the tubes. This unfortunately is where my factory of sorts ends. Playing on survival mode, and made a nice drop fall for my mine where stone is run along a conveyor system that takes the stone into a Survival Kit, then the ingots are taken out and put into a Basic Asembler.
